MEET THE FOUNDERS

    Chloe Brown

    Chloe is Marine Naturalist, Sailor, and Outdoor Educator with a bachelor’s in geoscience from Hobart and William Smith and aboard at University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Her passion for whales, sailing and ocean conservation has taken her everywhere from the remote islands of Tonga to lush St. Vincent. Chloe has a commitment to making science clear and engaging, writing much of our science communication and combining those words with her stunning photography. She aims to inspire curiosity, stewardship and a deeper connection to our ocean.

    Rylee Landen

    Born and raised in Juneau, Rylee grew up on the water and is passionate about Southeast, Alaska. Rylee has a degree interdisciplinary environmental studies and completed an outdoor studies certification at UAS. Her goal is to create harmony between people and their environment. In addition to being a marine naturalist, Rylee owns a sustainability focused landscape company and loves exploring the connection between land and sea. Rylee uses her entrepreneurial energy to plan and coordinate our community events and to be an advocate. She is married to Sam!

    Sam Carmack

    After graduating from East Tennessee State University and working in consulting for a variety of non-profits and government agencies, Sam followed her dream to be a nature interpreter and found herself in Southeast Alaska. For the last 4 seasons, she has worked as a marine naturalist in Juneau and will be following humpbacks to Hawaii, Patagonia and Mexico as a science communicator. She is passionate about conservation, human-wildlife conflict, and the power of citizen science. An avid writer and photographer, she makes graphics for WLW and loves using creativity and enthusiasm to connect other’s with nature. She is married to Rylee!
